Nigerian Graduate Sues Trump After Student Visa Revocation

Patrick, who earned a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 2024, filed the lawsuit Wednesday through her attorney, Rhys Cartwright-Jones, arguing the revocation threatens her career prospects and violates her due process rights. She is seeking a court order to have her visa reinstated.

Patrick’s case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi in Akron, highlights a Trump policy that has led to over 1,000 international students—including 61 in Ohio—losing their visas, often over minor infractions like traffic violations.

“This disruption will severely hinder her ability to gain professional experience in the United States,” the lawsuit said.

Patrick, a Maryland resident and former member of the National Society of Black Engineers, had also won a $1,000 Intel scholarship during her studies.
