Fresh details have emerged on the death of former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye, as the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that he was murdered.
Revelations from the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olorundare Jimoh, showed that the conclusion of an autopsy and toxicology test provided the breakthrough that enabled detectives to establish foul play.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, the police chief said investigators received the autopsy report on September 11, prompting the re-arrest and detention of seven members of the Akingboye family earlier questioned.
Further steps in the case, according to him, now depend on legal advice expected from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), which will guide the commencement of prosecution.
Earlier developments indicated that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, had detained and interrogated nine family members and aides in connection with the death of the politician.
Part of the suspicious activities probed by detectives included a controversial ₦50 million transfer from the deceased’s bank account, which was allegedly shared by some of his close relatives.
Confirming the latest position of the command, CP Jimoh maintained that once the DPP issues its advice, the police would proceed against anyone found culpable, stressing that no suspect would be spared.
Before the findings, some family members had told Channels Television during a crime-scene interview that they trusted the police to carry out a thorough and unbiased investigation.
Akingboye reportedly died under unclear circumstances on September 3, with his corpse said to have been discovered in the backyard of his residence by family members and aides.
His eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, who lives in Ondo State, had earlier raised the alarm and requested a full investigation to unravel the cause of his father’s death.
Reaffirming commitment to justice, CP Jimoh assured that the command would pursue the case to a logical conclusion and ensure that anyone linked to the murder faces the law.
