Ekiti Applauds Federal Government as 615 Flood Victims Receive Palliatives

The relief materials distributed to the victims across the state at a ceremony in Ado-Ekiti included mattresses, pumping machines, grinding machines, tricycles, bags of rice, sewing machines and several other household items.

Declaring the ceremony open, the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, whose office supervises disaster management in the state, charged the Federal Government to sustain its support for disaster victims in the state.

Afuye said the intervention was in recognition of the commitment of the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration to disaster management across Ekiti State, noting that the gesture would significantly provide relief to victims.

According to a statement by the Director of Press, Office of the Deputy Governor, Tope Ariyo, the Deputy Governor described the synergy between the Governor and the President as that of a father and son, both driven by passion to alleviate the conditions of the masses, especially the vulnerable.

“I sincerely observe that the synergy between Mr Governor and our President is that of father and son. Both have immense passion towards alleviating the living conditions of the masses, especially the vulnerable in the society. The state government has spent not less than N400 million on relief for disaster victims so far. It is our audacious efforts in the course of the year that prompted this intervention from the Federal Government,” she said.

She appealed to the people of the state to continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom she said has been prioritising Ekiti in developmental interventions.

“This man, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been prioritising Ekiti State in terms of developmental interventions. It shows the love Mr President has for Ekiti people. Let us come out en masse during the 2027 presidential election to vote for our loving President for another term in office,” Afuye added.

The Deputy Governor cautioned beneficiaries against selling the items for quick financial gain, stating that the benefits of using them rightly were unquantifiable. She added that government would put mechanisms in place to ensure compliance.

In his address, the Head of Operations, NEMA, Ekiti and Ondo Zones, Mr. Kazeem Olanrewaju, thanked the state government for the warm reception accorded his team and assured that the gesture would be sustained to reach more beneficiaries.

He disclosed that the 615 beneficiaries were identified through a survey and data collation exercise undertaken by NEMA in 2025, stressing that the agency would continue to adhere to professionalism to ensure palliatives get to actual victims.

Earlier, the General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Oludare Asaolu, thanked the Federal Government for supporting the state government’s disaster intervention efforts, and promised to ensure prompt monitoring of beneficiaries to ensure the items are used for their intended purposes.
