Former President Muhammadu Buhari has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain focused on the demands of governance as his administration clocks two years in office.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari congratulated President Tinubu on reaching the midterm milestone and reminded Nigerians that leadership is a continuous process.
“As the party and government celebrate, the country should be reminded that leadership is a continuous journey,” Buhari stated.
He called on Nigerians to support the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration and exercise patience with the reforms currently underway, stressing that meaningful change does not happen overnight.
“Reforms would achieve success gradually, not overnight,” he said, warning that “necessary reforms and desired changes must not fall victim to nettlesome domestic politics.”
The former president also expressed support for the government’s efforts to address pressing national challenges such as poverty and inflation, which he acknowledged are affecting the most vulnerable in society.
However, he stressed that these issues cannot be solved by government alone, urging active involvement from the private sector and citizens.
“The private sector and all of us as citizens must join in all ways we can,” he noted.
Buhari further urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and manage their expectations from the government.
“Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy,” he cautioned.
He concluded by extending warm wishes to President Tinubu: “I am wishing President Tinubu heartfelt congratulations on his two years in office. May you keep leading with wisdom and care.”
The statement comes as the APC celebrates the achievements and ongoing initiatives of the Tinubu administration at its midterm mark.
