Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has pledged to reveal details about Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s leadership, following her referral to the Senate Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.
The controversy stems from a confrontation between both lawmakers over a seating arrangement dispute, which led to a petition against Akpoti-Uduaghan. In response, she insisted that any probe must be conducted openly and broadcast live.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “It’s time to break my silence. Nigerians, please be sure to join the probe, which I shall insist would be covered live.”
The Northern Youths Advocacy for Excellence had petitioned the Senate Ethics Committee, accusing her of corruption, abuse of power, and staff mistreatment within the Senate Committee on Local Content, which she chairs.
Akpoti-Uduaghan denied the allegations and vowed to speak openly about the matter and other issues in the Senate.
The dispute escalated last week when she confronted Akpabio over her seat relocation in the Senate chambers. The argument intensified, prompting Akpabio to order security to remove her, but intervention from other senators prevented further action.
The Senate’s spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, later criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan’s conduct, stating that the Senate is “not for entertainment.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, she filed a ₦100.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and others, further intensifying the standoff.
