Lagos police have reinstated the security details of Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, after their withdrawal earlier on Thursday.
Lagos Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, attributed the withdrawal to a routine personnel audit, emphasizing that it was not targeted at any individual.
Meranda’s security removal had heightened tensions in the ongoing leadership struggle between her and former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Despite his ousting, Obasa insists he remains the legitimate speaker, arguing that due process was not followed.
The crisis escalated on February 17 when security agents clashed with legislative workers at the Assembly. However, 36 lawmakers have since passed a vote of confidence in Meranda.
