Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has refuted rumours circulating on social media claiming he has passed away, confirming that he is alive and well.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco road in Osun State, an event hosted by Governor Ademola Adeleke, Obasanjo expressed shock and disappointment over the false reports.
In his remarks, delivered in Yoruba, the former president addressed the issue, saying: “I heard the rumor of my death on social media. I immediately informed my children and relatives that it was false and that I am alive. Those wishing me dead may desire it, but God has kept me alive.”
He went on to criticize those behind such malicious rumors, stating: “Why would anyone wish for my death? People who harbor such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves. This kind of rumor is not only unsettling but also reflects the misuse of technology. It is unacceptable.”
During the event, Obasanjo also commended Governor Adeleke for his governance and achievements in Osun State. He highlighted Adeleke’s ability to disprove critics who had underestimated him.
“When Governor Adeleke assumed office, some mocked him, claiming he had nothing to offer beyond dancing. But he has shown that he is not only a good dancer but also an effective leader. He has delivered for the people of Osun, and I believe they will re-elect him for a second term,” Obasanjo said.
The former president’s statements addressed both the baseless rumors about his health and his confidence in the leadership of Governor Adeleke.
