Gov. Aiyedatiwa Laments Akeredolu’s Absence At His Swearing-in

Speaking after taking the oath of office as the 7th governor of the state, Aiyedatiwa praised Akeredolu’s visionary leadership and commitment to the state’s development.

Akeredolu’s Legacy Lives On

“Permit me to express special gratitude to my immediate predecessor, our visionary leader, the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, who worked tirelessly to develop our state for about seven years before he took a glorious bow to join the Saints Triumphant,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He described Akeredolu as a courageous and selfless leader who gave his all in service to Ondo State and Nigeria, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire future administrations.

A Prophetic Declaration Fulfilled

Reflecting on Akeredolu’s second-term inauguration four years ago, Aiyedatiwa recalled the late governor’s public and prophetic declaration about his eventual emergence as governor.

“I am particularly indebted to him for choosing me as his Deputy and for his public and undisguised prophetic declaration at about this time, on this same podium, four years ago. That declaration must be appreciated for setting the tone for me as his successor,” he said.

He lamented that Akeredolu was not alive to witness the fulfillment of his words, adding, “I am deeply pained that this great leader who saw tomorrow is not here with us to savor this auspicious occasion.”

Praying for the late governor’s soul, he said, “May the gentle soul of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, continue to rest in peace.”

Honouring Ondo’s Founding Fathers

Aiyedatiwa described his inauguration as a pivotal moment in Ondo State’s history, reflecting on past struggles, sacrifices, and the resilience of its people.

“In celebrating this significant milestone, I pay glowing tributes to all the founding fathers and former governors of our great state, who have contributed immensely to her growth and development over the past 49 years,” he said.

According to him, their selfless service and visionary leadership have laid the groundwork for the progress the state enjoys today.
