The Ekiti State Government has said that it would soon begin construction works on Igirigiri road in Ado Ekiti as part of steps aimed at providing motorable road for commuters and residents of the area.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Chief Tosin Aluko who was at Igirigiri on an inspection tour of the flooded route.
Aluko who had earlier received a flood alert from residents of the community as a result of heavy downpour on Monday and Tuesday pleaded with the residents to be calm as the government is already working to ensure the road is constructed as soon as possible.
Mrs. Aluko hinted that palliative measures will be considered for the people of the community pending the flag off of the road in September.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, a community leader, Mr. Sola Ogundare stated that the road has become a menace and residents are moving out of the community when it rains.
In company of the Commissioner were the Chairman, Ado Local Government, Chief Bosun Osaloni, the Project Coordinator, Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (EK-RAAMP), Hon. Sunday Adunmo, the Senior Special Assistant on Community Communication, Mrs Mary Oso-Omotoso, the General Manager, Ekiti State Waste Management Authority, Engr. Ayoola Osalusi and the General Manager, State Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Mr. Kayode Adunmo.
