Controversial Nigerian rapper, Speed Darlington, has stirred fresh reactions online after accusing fellow entertainer, Portable, of using spiritual powers—popularly referred to as ‘jazz’ or ‘juju’—to defeat him in their recently held celebrity boxing match.
The much-hyped bout, which followed months of heated online banter, ended unexpectedly in the first round, with Speed Darlington rushed out of the arena in an ambulance. The dramatic conclusion left fans shocked and social media buzzing.
In a video posted shortly after the fight, Darlington claimed he was physically strong and ready to continue but believed that unseen spiritual forces were at play.
“I wasn’t tired. I was strong. But somehow I just couldn’t continue. That guy use jazz on me,” he said. “If I knew, I for do my own juju before entering the ring.”
He also disclosed that he sustained a dislocated shoulder during the match, attributing it to the wild swings he threw during the early minutes of the fight. “My shoulder shift. Na the angle I take dey throw punch cause am. I no even feel am until I comot from the ring,” he added.
What appeared to pain him most, however, was losing out on the prize money promised to the winner. According to him, he had already earmarked the funds to build a swimming pool in his hometown in Imo State.
“The money don go. My dream swimming pool for village just vanish like that,” he lamented.
The match, streamed live on several platforms, quickly became a top trend on social media, with mixed reactions trailing Darlington’s claims. While some viewed his statements as classic comic relief, others felt he underestimated Portable’s readiness.
“This is typical Speed Darlington—win or lose, he must trend,” one fan commented.
The boxing event has since sparked fresh conversations about the fusion of sports and entertainment in Nigeria’s celebrity scene.
