Tinubu Orders FEC To Tackle Rising Food Prices

The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this on Wednesday at a one-day capacity-building workshop organised by the Senate Press Corps in Abuja.

According to him, the directive is part of the president’s broader plan to achieve food sovereignty and ensure that food is available, affordable, accessible, and nutritious for Nigerians.

“The President has given a marching order to the FEC committee already working on this issue,” Abdullahi said. “We are promoting safe passage for agricultural goods through major routes to reduce transportation costs, which remain a key driver of rising food prices.”

The minister also revealed that the Federal Government would soon roll out the Farmer Soil Health Scheme and embark on a major cooperative reform and revamp programme.

He explained that the reforms would strengthen local cooperatives for better resource mobilisation and community development.

“President Tinubu sees cooperatives as powerful tools to boost livelihoods and economic activities. We are reforming and revitalising that sector,” he added.

Other speakers at the workshop, which focused on challenges in parliamentary reporting, included Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Senator Ita Enang, and the Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, who was represented.
