Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, have stepped up efforts to locate a missing student, Miss Dorcas Oseghale, who has not been seen for four days.
Dorcas, a 300-level student of the Department of Chemistry with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after telling a friend she was going to buy food at the Students’ Village along Ede Road. Since then, her whereabouts have remained unknown, and her phone lines have been unreachable.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, adding that the matter has been formally reported to the Osun State Police Command to expand the search.
According to him, a report of Dorcas’ disappearance first appeared on a students’ social media platform at about 3:00 p.m. on August 7. By 6:10 p.m., some students from the Department of Chemistry, accompanied by her roommate, Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice of the Department of Agricultural Extension, lodged a formal complaint with the university’s Security Unit.
Olarewaju explained that, due to the complexity of the matter and resource constraints, three security personnel were assigned to accompany the students to the police to present initial findings.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, commended the students for promptly reporting the case and assisting in the search. He urged the police and other security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to locate Dorcas.
He also appealed to members of the public with useful information to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.
