The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have announced that they will be closed on Tuesday, July 15, in respect of the public holiday declared by the Federal Government of Nigeria in honour of late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The closure was made known through a statement shared on the official X handle of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria on Monday, July 14.

The Embassy explained that all visa appointments originally scheduled for July 15 would be rescheduled, adding that affected applicants will be notified with new dates.
“Normal operations will resume after the holiday,” the mission stated.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday to mark the passing of the former Nigerian leader, who died in London on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian president between 2015 and 2023 and earlier as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, was known for his strong stance against corruption and his role in shaping national security policies.
The U.S. Mission said the temporary closure was in solidarity with the Nigerian people during the national mourning period declared by President Bola Tinubu. As part of the mourning, flags are to fly at half-mast across the country for seven days.
