A veteran journalist in Ekiti State, Mrs. Adijat Bimbo Yusuf, has appealed to the state government for urgent intervention following severe flood damage to her property at Basiri area of Ado-Ekiti.

Yusuf, who resides at 2nd Avenue, Aseye Quarters, behind Courage Hotel, Nova Road, Basiri, said recent heavy downpour caused floodwater to overflow its channel and enter her premises, leading to the collapse of part of her fence and threatening the foundation of her building.

In an appeal letter addressed to the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Green Economy and Ecological Matters, the journalist said the incident has exposed her household to danger and insecurity.
“The rains in recent days have caused extensive damage to part of my fence. The flood overflowed its boundary and entered my premises, threatening the foundation and safety of my household,” she wrote.

Yusuf said efforts by her and her children to control the flood have failed, adding that the area has become vulnerable to further damage if urgent steps are not taken.
She appealed to the state government to intervene through relevant agencies, including Ecological Control and Emergency Management, by constructing drainages and culverts in the area to channel the flood.
She cited similar interventions carried out beside the Trade Fair Complex, Old Iyin Road, and in front of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, as examples the government could replicate in Basiri.
“I humbly appeal for urgent intervention and inspection of the affected areas to assess the level of damage. Save my soul to avoid my building from collapsing due to ecological problems,” she added.
