The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it will release the results of the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on or before Thursday, August 4.
This was made known on Sunday by the Head of National Office of WAEC Nigeria, Dr Amos Dangut, in a statement issued by the Council’s Public Affairs Unit in Lagos and signed by Mrs Moyosola Adesina.

The Council also dismissed as false a viral social media report claiming that all the papers written during the examination had been cancelled. WAEC described the report as fake and aimed at causing confusion and panic among candidates and the general public.
“Our attention has been drawn to a press statement alleging the cancellation of all the papers written during the just concluded WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025,” the statement said.
According to WAEC, the false information, dated Saturday, July 19, 2025, claimed that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC had jointly cancelled the exams due to alleged widespread malpractice and digital leakage of exam materials.
“The WAEC management would like to state unequivocally that the spurious press statement being circulated did not emanate from the Council. The said examination has not been cancelled,” the statement added.
WAEC said it had just concluded the marking of scripts and would release the results as planned. It noted that the fake report was being spread by mischief-makers determined to tarnish the image of the Council.
The Council also urged candidates, parents, and stakeholders to rely only on its verified social media handles and accredited media platforms for official information.
“All press releases from WAEC are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office,” the statement emphasized.
WAEC urged the public to disregard the false publication and remain calm as preparations for the timely release of results are already in top gear.
