Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a major midnight attack on Chibok communities in Borno State after confronting more than 300 terrorists who launched coordinated assaults from multiple directions.
The attack, which began around 2:50 a.m., was repelled through swift intelligence, tactical manoeuvre and superior firepower by troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade.

Soldiers who had been on alert detected early enemy movement and quickly took battle positions. A fierce gun duel followed for over two hours, during which the troops firmly held their ground and stopped the terrorists from entering the adjoining towns.
At daybreak, the terrorists began fleeing in disarray toward the Azir axis of the Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Damboa–Biu Main Supply Route. The 25 Brigade immediately moved to pre-designated ambush positions near the Azir Bridge to block their escape, guided by a Nigerian Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also deployed a Super Tucano aircraft. As troops advanced, the terrorists scattered, and their withdrawal was disrupted. No soldier or equipment was lost in the operation, a feat the Army attributed to high combat readiness and professionalism.
Exploitation operations around Chibok are still ongoing, and the Army says efforts are being intensified to track fleeing fighters and restrict their movement. Video footage of the mass retreat has been obtained and is under analysis.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of citizens.
