Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has faulted the United States’ decision to tag Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” describing it as a product of misinformation and political manipulation.
In a post on X, the human rights activist said killings and kidnappings in Nigeria are not religiously motivated but are acts of terrorism affecting both Muslims and Christians.

“The designation of Nigeria is founded on outright falsehoods and wholesale misinformation,” Sani wrote. “Terrorists and bandits in Nigeria kill and kidnap their victims irrespective of their religious beliefs. The records are self-evident in the last 15 years.”
He added that it is impossible for one religion to persecute another in Nigeria given the near-equal population of Muslims and Christians, saying: “Nigeria is a Lion and Tiger situation, not a Lion and Zebra configuration.”
Sani alleged that Trump was misled by “anarchists, lackeys, and apprentices of neocolonialism” who seek to profit from sowing division.
He urged the international community to support Nigeria’s fight against terrorism rather than spread misleading narratives.
