Senate Confirms Doro as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs

President Bola Tinubu had nominated Doro from Plateau State to replace Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who resigned following his appointment as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Doro’s screening lasted less than 30 minutes, during which lawmakers commended his experience and leadership qualities.

Addressing the Senate during the session, Doro pledged to ensure fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness in the nation’s humanitarian programmes.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he said.

After reviewing his credentials, the lawmakers unanimously asked him to take a bow and leave, confirming his nomination without objection.

Earlier, Senate President Godswill Akpabio had read a letter from President Tinubu requesting Doro’s confirmation in line with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, described Doro as a highly qualified professional with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Born on Jan. 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

He is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with frontline experience across the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), including urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospitals.

With Thursday’s confirmation, Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at its next meeting.
