The Senate has dismissed media reports suggesting a clash between the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during a recent executive session.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), made this known in a personally signed statement on Saturday. He described the reports as misleading and lacking any truth.
“Our attention has been drawn to media claims that the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, clashed during an executive session held to deliberate on the Senate’s annual recess. These reports are completely false and a misrepresentation of legislative processes,” he said.
Adaramodu explained that parliamentary debates are part of long-established democratic practices across the world, where lawmakers freely discuss motions, bills, or policies, regardless of party affiliation.
He stressed that the Nigerian Senate, as the nation’s highest law-making body, regularly engages in thorough debates on all legislative matters to serve the interest of over 230 million Nigerians.
“Whether in plenary or in committees, strong debates over national issues should not be mistaken for personal conflicts or leadership rifts,” he added.
