Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the crescent moon signalling the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
According to a statement released on Tuesday via Haramain Sharifain’s official page on X (formerly Twitter), Dhul Hijjah 1446 will commence on Wednesday, 28th May, 2025.

The announcement also outlined important dates for Muslims around the world to note:
Start of Dhul Hijjah – Wednesday, 28th May 2025
Day of Arafah – Thursday, 5th June 2025
Eid-el-Adha (Sallah Day) – Friday, 6th June 2025
The Day of Arafah, which falls on June 5, is one of the most sacred days in Islam. It is the day when pilgrims performing Hajj converge on Mount Arafat to engage in intense prayers and supplications.
Eid-el-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, will be celebrated the following day, June 6. The festival commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command, a test of faith that was ultimately rewarded with divine mercy.
Haramain Sharifain also shared a popular declaration recited by pilgrims as they enter the state of ihram (spiritual readiness for Hajj):
“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.”
(Meaning: Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. Indeed, all praise, blessings, and dominion belong to You; You have no partner.)
This official confirmation allows Muslims across the globe to begin preparations for the sacred rites of Hajj, as well as the spiritual and communal activities that characterise the Eid-el-Adha celebrations — including prayers, acts of charity, and animal sacrifices in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion.
Last year, Sallah was marked on June 16, 2024.
