The Onidogun of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare, has died, months after a crisis in the community forced him to leave the town.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, who is also an indigene of Idogun, confirmed the monarch’s death, saying community chiefs informed him of the development. He expressed the state government’s condolences to the royal family and the people of Idogun.

According to reports, the monarch collapsed on Wednesday and was taken to a hospital, where he reportedly remained in a coma for about 24 hours before his death on Thursday evening.
The development comes after a crisis in Idogun in October 2025, when some residents were captured in a viral video assaulting the monarch. Following the incident, Oba Bakare reportedly left the community and remained away until his death.
In response to the crisis, the Ondo State Government established a panel of inquiry to investigate the incident and submit its findings. However, the panel’s report has yet to be made public, according to the information available.
Ajanaku urged residents to maintain peace and order while mourning the monarch, warning against violence during the period.
Meanwhile, reports from Idogun indicated that some residents opposed to the late monarch prevented his body from being taken into the community on Thursday. The residents reportedly blocked a road with logs of wood, forcing those conveying the body to return it to a mortuary in Owo.
The circumstances surrounding the reported obstruction could not be independently established from the information provided.
