Police Arrest Five Over Alleged Assault, Public Humiliation of Woman in Agbado-Ekiti

The arrest followed a petition received on September 22, 2026, from one Mrs. Funmilayo Omoyajowo, a resident of Ishorun Street, Agbado-Ekiti, who alleged that she was assaulted, stripped naked and publicly humiliated on June 20, 2026.

According to the petition, Omoyajowo alleged that at about 8:00 a.m. on June 20, the suspects, alongside others currently at large, invaded her residence and physically assaulted her, inflicting serious injuries on her.

She further alleged that the suspects accused her of witchcraft and falsely linked her to the death of one Mr. Abayo of Agbado-Ekiti, dragged her to an open space, stripped her naked, recorded the incident and circulated the video on social media to humiliate and defame her.

Acting on the petition, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested five suspects identified as Tafa Adesanmi, 60; Fatoba Sola, 65; Hassan Yahaya, 43; Bodunde Adebayo, 32; and Titilayo Toyin, 47. All five suspects are residents of Agbado-Ekiti.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abutu Sunday, who disclosed this in a statement, said the suspects are currently undergoing investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the incident who remain at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, strongly condemned the alleged acts, reiterating that the Command would not tolerate jungle justice, mob violence or unlawful circulation of content intended to degrade, intimidate or violate the dignity of any individual.

The Commissioner emphasised that allegations of witchcraft or any other offence do not justify assault, public humiliation or any form of inhuman or degrading treatment, warning members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

He urged residents to report suspected criminal activities to appropriate authorities, assuring that the Command remains committed to protecting the lives, dignity and fundamental rights of all residents of Ekiti State.

He added that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law, noting that the suspects would be prosecuted accordingly upon conclusion of investigation.
