No fewer than 60 violators were apprehended during the September edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise carried out across Ekiti State.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Tunde Balogun, while monitoring the exercise said the offenders were arrested for failing to comply with sanitation regulations, which included refusal to participate in the cleanup, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and neglecting to clear their surroundings.

Balogun reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a clean and healthy environment, stressing that environmental sanitation is a collective responsibility.
He warned that negligence toward hygiene would no longer be tolerated, noting that improper waste disposal contributes to flooding, disease outbreaks, and environmental degradation.
He further charged residents to imbibe the culture of cleanliness in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods, adding that enforcement teams will intensify monitoring in subsequent exercises, while repeat offenders risk stiffer penalties.
Also speaking, the Director of Environmental Services, Mr. Ayodele Aluko, urged residents to support government efforts by adhering to sanitation guidelines.
He encouraged them to make cleanliness a daily practice rather than waiting for the monthly exercise.
