The Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced plans to commence an enforcement patrol on Tuesday to clamp down on non-journalists using fake NUJ identity cards and unauthorized union car stickers.
In a statement co-signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, and Secretary, Comrade O’Seun Ogunsakin, the Union said the exercise would be carried out by the Abiodun Olofe-led Anti-Quackery Committee with support from personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

According to the statement, the enforcement is aimed at safeguarding public safety and protecting citizens from the dangers of counterfeit media practitioners.
The Anti-Quackery team will, during the operation, verify identity cards and press stickers on vehicles of persons parading themselves as journalists.
“The enforcement is vital to ensure public safety and protect citizens from the hazards of counterfeit services,” the statement read.
To avoid embarrassment during the exercise, the Union urged all practicing journalists in the state to carry their valid NUJ identity cards at all times.
The NUJ reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalism and vowed not to tolerate activities capable of bringing the profession into disrepute.
