Nigerian Man Jailed in UK for Hacking Woman’s Social Media Accounts, Blackmail

A 25-year-old Nigerian man, Bosun Osagie, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison in the United Kingdom for hacking a woman’s social media accounts and blackmailing her.

Osagie was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to computer hacking and blackmail offences involving a woman in Wirral, Merseyside.

According to a statement issued by Merseyside Police on Tuesday, Osagie hacked the woman’s Snapchat and X accounts and used her photographs to create fake profiles without her consent.

The police said the fake accounts were then used to advertise the woman as a sex worker, while her images were allegedly offered for sale online. The victim was also subjected to blackmail.

“It was further reported that the fake accounts were used to solicit her as a sex worker and her images were being sold online and she was subsequently blackmailed,” the statement said.

Osagie, who resides at Hartslock Drive in Bexley, London, was arrested and charged after the victim reported the incident to the police in February 2023.

Following investigations and court proceedings, he admitted the offences. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim.

The case highlights the potential consequences of using digital platforms to impersonate, exploit or threaten others.
