The newly appointed Minister of Defence and immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, retired General Christopher Musa, formally took over duties on Friday at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.
Musa was appointed on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu after the resignation of former minister Muhammed Badaru and was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday.

His appointment has continued to receive positive reactions from security analysts, military stakeholders and civil society groups, many of whom say his experience and leadership style during his tenure as defence chief from 2023 to 2025 will help reinforce ongoing defence reforms.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the minister arrived at the ministry at about 11.10 am. He inspected the quarter guard in keeping with military tradition and later exchanged pleasantries with service chiefs and top officials.
General Musa is currently in a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and directors of the ministry.
