A tanker loaded with petrol exploded Friday after overturning on the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State, destroying vehicles and electricity installations, officials said.
The blaze, which erupted around 1:00 a.m. at the Kobape–Siun axis, gutted a truck, a tow vehicle, and power cables feeding Mowe and adjoining areas, leaving communities in darkness.

“Casualty figures are still sketchy, but rescue operations are ongoing,” said Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesman of Ogun’s TRACE unit. He confirmed the tanker was carrying 33,000 litres of fuel and blamed the crash on excessive speed.
Traffic on the busy highway has been reduced to a single lane as firefighters and security personnel worked to clear the scene. Authorities advised motorists to obey diversions and exercise patience.
