Political realignments are taking shape in Enugu as Governor Peter Mbah is set to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Reliable sources confirmed that the governor’s defection would take place in Enugu, the state capital, where he will be received by the APC national leadership, including National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu.

Mbah’s move, which has been the subject of intense political speculation in recent weeks, is expected to trigger a wave of defections by state and federal lawmakers, commissioners, and local government officials loyal to him.
The APC, which recently dissolved its Enugu State Working Committee and appointed a seven-member caretaker team, is reportedly banking on Mbah’s defection to strengthen its foothold in the South East ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the new Caretaker Chairman for Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, confirmed that preparations were in top gear for the official reception of the governor and his team.
“Governor Mbah and several top government functionaries will formally join our great party on October 14. We are ready to receive them in Enugu,” Nwoye said.
The development follows what insiders describe as months of quiet negotiation between Mbah and APC national figures, who have been wooing influential South East politicians as part of a broader strategy to expand the ruling party’s influence in the region.
Observers believe the defection could reshape Enugu’s political dynamics, marking a major blow to the PDP, which has dominated the state’s political landscape since 1999.
Party sources say the event will draw high-profile APC chieftains from across the country, underscoring the significance of Mbah’s entry into the ruling fold.
