Nigerian travellers have received a major boost, as a valid Schengen visa now grants them access to 27 European countries, making travel across the continent easier and more cost-effective.
Once issued a Schengen visa by any of the member nations, Nigerian passport holders can visit other countries within the zone without the need for additional visas — whether for tourism, business, studies, or family visits.

The Schengen visa permits free movement across internal borders of participating countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, without the need for further border checks.
Effective from January 1, 2025, Romania and Bulgaria have officially joined the Schengen Area. This means that Nigerians with an existing Schengen visa can now enter these two countries by land, air, or sea.
However, travellers are reminded that not all European nations are part of the Schengen Agreement. The United Kingdom, Ireland, and Cyprus still require separate visas for entry.
