FIFA Orders Club Relegation For Match Fixing

FIFA, in a decision released the same day, declared that the second-tier club was involved in activities aimed at manipulating football matches and competitions. As a result, Muhoroni Youth has been expelled from the FKF National Super League and demoted to the third-tier Division One League ahead of the next football season.

Reacting to the development, the FKF said it “fully supports FIFA’s decision” and reaffirmed its “zero-tolerance stance on match-fixing and all forms of manipulation that threaten the integrity of the game.”

This is the latest in a string of match-fixing scandals to hit Kenyan football. In March, former national team goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi, was suspended over allegations that he played a role in manipulating Kenya’s 4-1 defeat to Cameroon in a 2025 AFCON qualifier in Yaoundé.

In 2020, FIFA banned four players based in Kenya — one of them for life — for their involvement in an international match-fixing conspiracy. Five referees were also suspended in connection with that case.

The Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis, an independent research body, recently raised alarm that match-fixing had penetrated all levels of football in the country, from grassroots tournaments to the professional leagues.
