The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, on the record-breaking performance of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, at the box office.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Monday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) described the achievement as a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and evidence of the growing global acceptance of Nigerian stories.
According to the agency, Behind the Scenes has officially grossed over ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film to cross the ₦2 billion mark.
The NOA noted that the success was not limited to Nigeria, as the movie also earned over $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America, further highlighting Nollywood’s expanding international footprint.
The agency added that the feat also positioned Akindele as the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years, describing the milestone as a proud moment for Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors.
The government’s commendation comes amid widespread acclaim for the 2025 release, which has continued to dominate local cinemas while gaining strong international attention.
