DHQ Confirms 16 Military Officers Probe Over Alleged Coup Plot

This disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba.

He said the investigation followed an earlier announcement by the DHQ in October 2025 and has now been concluded.

According to the statement, the findings of the inquiry have been forwarded to the appropriate superior authorities for further decisions, after a detailed review of the conduct of the affected personnel.

The DHQ said some of the officers were found to have questions to answer over allegations bordering on plotting to overthrow the government, actions described as contrary to the ethics, values and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces.

The military high command explained that officers indicted in the report would be formally charged before a military judicial panel, where they would be tried in line with the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations.

It stressed that the process is purely disciplinary and aimed at upholding order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces.

The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the loyalty of the Nigerian military to the Constitution and democratic governance, assuring Nigerians that the matter is being handled with fairness, professionalism and strict adherence to due process.
