Professor Ayodele gave the charge on Friday at the second induction ceremony of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Computer Science graduates into the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) held at the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Michael Olufemi Oke, urged the inductees to combine technical competence with integrity and commitment to responsible technological advancement.

He enjoined them to distinguish themselves as problem-identifiers, solution providers and innovators, noting that the nation and global community increasingly depend on technology experts to provide solutions in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering and digital transformation.

“I urge you to use your skills not only to advance your careers but also to impact the society positively,” he said.

Professor Ayodele stressed the need for continuous learning and adaptability in the rapidly evolving tech landscape, urging the new professionals to remain curious, pursue excellence and demonstrate discipline and lifelong commitment to professional development.

In his remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Professor O. L. Ademilua, expressed confidence in the capacity of the inductees to excel, describing the training facilities available to them as exceptional.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor for providing an enabling environment for quality training and for supporting the advancement of digital technology and its application to societal development.

Earlier, the Head of Department of Computer Science, Dr Oluwatoyin Yerokun, underscored the importance of professional certification and ethical conduct, particularly in the responsible use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Dr Yerokun explained that professional registration strengthens regulatory oversight and promotes safer and more responsible use of technology in society.

She listed some of the department’s innovations to include an electronic recruitment system, automated professorial assessment system, real-time mail tracking system and biometric vehicle monitoring system.

Dr Yerokun appealed to the university management to expedite the unbundling of the Department of Computer Science into six specialized programmes: Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information and Communication Technology, and Computer Science.

A lecture titled “Ethical Innovation for Professional Leadership” was delivered by Dr Josephine Mebawondu, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).
