EKITI CP ORDERS MANHUNT AFTER FATAL ATTACK ON CHURCH IN EDA ONIYO-EKITI

Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred on April 28, 2026, at about 22:30 hours, while members of the church were holding an all-night prayer service on the outskirts of the town. A group of about five yet-to-be-identified gunmen reportedly attacked the worshippers, fatally shot the pastor, and abducted some members of the congregation.

The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Agro Marshal, local vigilantes, and hunters, has commenced bush-combing operations and a manhunt for the perpetrators to secure the release of the abducted victims and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

CP Adegoroye Michael called for calm, assuring residents that necessary steps are being taken to address the situation and prevent a recurrence. He urged members of the public, especially religious leaders, to strictly adhere to the State Government’s directive that all gatherings, particularly late-night events, must be held with prior notification to the Police to enable adequate security provision.

The Command also advised members of the public to be security conscious and vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious person or group of persons to the Police and other security agencies for proactive action.
