The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, for questioning over alleged suspicious cash withdrawals amounting to ₦189 billion.
A senior EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development on Monday, saying the withdrawals allegedly breached provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The source did not specify the period the transactions took place.
Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015, was said to have arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:30 a.m. where he met investigators handling the case.
When contacted, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined to comment on the matter.
Tambuwal was Sokoto State governor from 2015 to 2023.
