The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has backtracked on its plan to stop selling petrol in naira following intervention by the Federal Government’s Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee.
On Friday, the refinery had notified marketers that payments for petrol would only be accepted in US dollars from September 28, citing exhaustion of its naira crude allocations. Customers were asked to seek refunds for ongoing naira transactions.

However, after the committee chaired by Finance Minister Wale Edun intervened, the refinery issued a fresh notice confirming that sales in naira had resumed.
“Following the intervention of the Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in naira,” the refinery stated, urging marketers to place fresh orders.
The development eased concerns of a looming petrol price hike and dollar scarcity in the downstream market.
