Araromi Ekiti Seeks Justice In Monarch’s Trial, Urges Govt To Steer Clear

By Our Reporter

A community leader in Araromi Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mr. Gabriel Olusola Aina, has appealed to the Ekiti State Government not to take side in the certificate forgery case against the monarch of the community, Oba Babalola Adebomi, the Alararomi of Araromi Ekiti.

Mr. Olusola Aina made the appeal on Wednesday, while addressing newsmen on behalf of the  community at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists,  Ado-Ekiti,  the State capital.

The appeal follows a request by a principal Legal Officer from the Ekiti State  Ministry of Justice, Mr. Sina  Adeyemo,  during the court proceeding that he had been  authorised by the State  Attorney General, Mr Dayo Apata to take over the case in accordance with the sections of the constitution, which the prosecutor, Mr Itunu Osobu opposed  to, claiming that the Attorney General of Ekiti State cannot take over the case, being a Federal matter.

However, Justice  Babs kuewumi  of the Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, has adjourned the trial of the monarch to October 7th this year.

Mr. Aina who said that himself and other members of the community agitating for justice to be done in the matter said,  they were surprised that the state government wants to take over the case.

“We want the state government to steer clear of this case because it is a criminal case. We don’t know why the state government is actually running helter-skelter to take up the case. We are confused, we are embarrassed, and we don’t want that.

“The case had come up before he became the monarch of the community and because he is already a monarch, shouldn’t stop the criminal case against him. For a man that has robbed the government for about five years, we find it embarrassing for the government to install the man on us.

“Assuming I want to go into an office and it requires that I take the monarch of my community along with me, and I get there, I am insulted, it wouldn’t speak well.  What we are saying now is not for today but  for our incoming generation”. The community leader maintained.

Mr. Gabriel Olusola Aina who  described Araromi Ekiti as a peace loving community said,  they don’t want anything that could tarnish their image saying the community stands on integrity.
