Tinubu Presides Over Extended FEC Meeting, Approves N4.8bn for HIV Treatment

Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, had earlier explained that the extended meeting was necessary as no FEC session had been held since December. He assured that all outstanding memos would be addressed, with another press briefing scheduled after the meeting.

Present at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Walson-Jack, and several ministers.

On Monday, the council approved N4.8 billion for the Presidential Treatment Programme, which will provide 150,000 HIV treatment packs from February to May 2025.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, disclosed that the decision followed discussions on the impact of recent U.S. policy changes on Nigeria’s health programmes, particularly HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria funding.
