The Senate has appointed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC-Abia) and Senator Babangida Hussaini (APC-Jigawa) as chairmen of the South-East Development Commission and North-West Development Commission committees, respectively.
Announcing the appointments during Tuesday’s plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio also named Senator Mohammed Dandutse (APC-Katsina) as Vice Chairman of the North-West Development Commission and Senator Ken Eze (APC-Ebonyi) as Vice Chairman of the South-East Development Commission.
Additionally, Senator Titus Zam (APC-Benue) was appointed Chairman of the North-Central Development Commission Committee, while Senator Abudl Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) now leads the Sports Development Committee.
Other key appointments include:
Senator Victor Umeh (LP-Anambra) – Chairman, National Population and Identity Committee
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi) – Chairman, Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Committee
Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas (APC-Delta) – Chairman, Local Content Committee
Senator Isa Jubril (APC-Kogi) – Deputy Chairman, Rules and Business Committee
Akpabio noted that a new Chairman for the Rules and Business Committee would be announced later.
The plenary was later adjourned to Wednesday after the Senate paid tribute and observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Adewumi Onanuga, who passed away on January 15.
