Teenager, Minors Arraigned For Killing Peacock In Ekiti

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti has admitted two minors, one teenager who killed an animal to bail in Ado Ekiti.

The charge reads that Oke Temitope (12), Atowoju Emmanuel (10) and Dada Ayomide (19) on 11th June, 2023 at Usi Ekiti in Ido Ekiti Magisterial District did conspire to commit misdemeanor, also on same date, time and place did kill a Peacock valued One Million Naira (N1m) property of one Agbetuyi, with intent to steal it.

According to the charge, the offences are punishable under Sections 421 and 306 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The charges were read and explained to the defendants but they pleaded not guilty.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata prayed for an adjournment to enable him assemble his witnesses for the prosecution.

Counsel for the defendants, Eric Omotoso did not oppose to an adjournment but applied that the defendants be admitted to bail in a liberal term.

In his ruling, Magistrate Kehinde Awosika said, bail is hereby granted to the defendants in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety in like sum, the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of this honourable court.

The case has been adjourned till 17th July, 2023 for definite hearing.
