The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has officially relocated its headquarters to a new facility in the Jahi area of Abuja.
The relocation marks the first phase of the agency’s ongoing national headquarters project, which is expected to be fully completed by 2025, subject to budgetary allocations.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.
The new facility was inaugurated during an interdenominational service held at the complex on November 26, 2024.
Speaking at the event, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), described the relocation as a significant step in the agency’s transformation into a modern, results-driven anti-narcotics organization.
Marwa noted that while the facility is not entirely completed, it is functional enough to house the agency’s expanding operations.
He emphasized the urgency of the move, citing space constraints at the old headquarters in Gimbiya, Garki, Abuja. He explained that the transition would consolidate the agency’s directorates for more efficient operations. The former headquarters will now serve as an annex.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other stakeholders for their support, Marwa highlighted the positive impact of a modern work environment on the agency’s performance.
He also commended his predecessor for initiating the process of securing a befitting headquarters.
In his remarks, the agency’s secretary, Shadrach Haruna, praised Marwa’s leadership, which he credited with transforming NDLEA into a globally competitive organization.
Haruna noted key achievements since 2021, including a significant increase in staff strength, promotions, payment of outstanding allowances, and legislative amendments enhancing the agency’s mandate.
The event concluded with prayers for Nigeria and President Tinubu, along with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
