Man Arraigned Over Alleged Assault In Lagos

Police has arraigned a trader, Gabriel Okoro, 29, who allegedly assaulted a woman before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Okoro, resident of Orile road, Agege, Lagos, State was arraigned on a four-counts of assault, damage, stealing and conspiracy, to which he pleaded not guilty. 

The prosecutor, Insp Felicia Okwoli, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 17, at Orile Market, Orile Road, Agege, Lagos.

She alleged that during a misunderstanding between the defendant and one Omolara Owohunwa, who is also the complainant, a fight had ensued.

The prosecutor stated further that, the defendant used an object to hit the complainant in the face, with multiple slap, thereby inflicting injuries resulting in grievous bodily harm.

Okwoli also told the court that the defendant maliciously damaged the complainant’s Tecno phone valued at N10,500 and itel phone worth N128,000.

The defendant, the prosecutor alleged stole a cash sum of N150,000 and head tie worth N5,000 belonging to the complainant. 

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police and detained.

She said the offences contravened Sections 411, 173, 339(1) 278 and of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, H.B Mogaji, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mogaji adjourned the case until June 20, for mention.
