How Varsity Loses Three Senior Lecturers In Three Days

Among them is Prof. Akporido Samuel, a former Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences, who collapsed and died in his office on Thursday.

The other two are Dr. Kiliobas Sha’a, a former Head of the Department of Biological Sciences, and Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Bali, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday.

Reports indicate that Prof. Akporido Samuel collapsed and passed away in his office, while Dr. Kiliobas Sha’a died at home after battling high blood pressure. Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Bali succumbed to a prolonged illness at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Jalingo.

Sources suggest that many staff members at Taraba State University are facing significant challenges due to the rising cost of living and unfavorable working conditions.

The lecturers have long called on the state government to address issues related to their welfare and salaries, but their demands remain unmet.

Reacting to the tragic loss of his colleagues, Dr. Mbave Joshua, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, expressed deep shock and concern over the poor working conditions at the institution.
