The Governor of Oyo State, Engr.Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated the 10th State House of Assembly.
The inauguration was held at the Assembly Chamber immediately after the proclamation of the 10th Assembly by the Governor.
The proclamation was in pursuant to Section 105 (3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
Makinde, in his address, sought the co-operation of the State 10th Assembly so that his administration would continue to provide good governance for the people of the state.
“So, as we usher in sustainable development under Omituntun 2.0, I again ask that you work with us.
“I ask that you work with us as we continue to make education a priority.
“We have promised the good people of Oyo State that we will continue to allocate 15 to 20 per cent of our budget to education.
“And that we will take all actions necessary to return another 20 per cent of our out-of-school children back to the classrooms.
“Our expectation is that when we present our budgets, they will be passed in good time.
“I ask that you work with us in continued infrastructural development,” he said.
The governor maintained that his administration had promised the people of the state that it would continue to extract all the value trapped in moribund assets in the state.
“That we will complete the 110-kilometre Sen. Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road and create a modern Dugbe Business District in Akinyele area of the state capital.
“We will come to you for support as we take decisions that will make these deliverables possible.
“We expect that you will support us to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of Oyo State.
“I ask that you work with us as we strive to be the first state to provide 24/7 electricity supply to our people,” he stated.
Makinde further hinted that his administration has already started a process of having uninterrupted electricity in the state by presenting a bill before the 9th Assembly.
According to him, the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill when passed into law will allow partnerships with the private sector on large-scale energy provision.
He said the development would ensure efficient and uninterrupted electricity generation, distribution and supply in the state to promote economic growth.
Mrs Yetunde Awe, had earlier supervised the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
At the end of the election, Adebo Ogundoyin, (PDP-Ibarapa East) was elected the Speaker, while Mr Abiodun Fadeyi, (PDP-Ona-Ara) was elected deputy speaker.
Ogundoyin and Fadeyi were the speaker and deputy speaker respectfully in the 9th assembly.
Ogundoyin, after taking his Oath of Office and Allegiance, pledged that the 10th Assembly under his watch would support the executive arm of government in its efforts to bring rapid development to the state.
The state 10th assembly comprises of 15 re-elected members and 17 new members, with two female members.
