Golfers around the world are applauding the initiative of ‘De Fun Golfers Kitty Group’, a subgroup within prestigious Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) for floating a monthly all coloured magazine, a golf publication covering recreational golf of men’s and women’s competitive golf.

The online magazine which is the first in the history of a kitty group in Africa hits the airwave this month (July), according to the Editor-in-Chief Otunba Abimbola Davis who doubles as the Chairman of the kitty group serves as a newsletter for the De Fun Golfers Kitty Group with plans to be a monthly publication.

“De Fun Golfers Kitty Group is a subgroup within Ibadan Golf Club which is exclusively for men, has launched its newsletter which is a monthly golf magazine with contents covering personality interviews, health issues related to golf, tournaments amongst others”, said Otunba Davis.

The High Chief of Ibadan added that “in this maiden edition, we are featuring an exclusive interview with Alhaji Jelili Olawale Adesiyan, a Trustee of Ibadan Golf Club who is also a Trustee and co-founder of De Fun Golfers Kitty Group.

“Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan was a former Commissioner for Education in Osun State, southwestern Nigeria, and a former Minister for Police Affairs in Nigeria. He is married to Alhaja Mujidat Otolola Adesiyan, a notable golfer and past Lady Captain of IGC. The interview with Alhaji Adesiyan, fondly called Jalo, is exhilarating and fun all the way.

“The magazine also featured the story of Mr. David Owoyemi, the resident Pro at Ibadan Golf Club, who was amongst the early professional golfers in Ibadan and indeed Nigeria and also reputed to have trained almost all the golf professionals in Oyo State and many other states of Nigeria”.

“Also in this edition, a short biography of a golf icon, Rory Mcllroy is featured”, Otunba Davis, an award-winning poet and accomplished playwright with many books to his credit disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Ibadan.

He added that “from experience as an amateur golfer, one has come across many amateurs who have lost their game because of little understanding of basic golf rules and regulations. In this edition, we have decided to feature simple but important golf rules and new rules introduced in 2023. It is our hope that golfers will take their time to go through these rules to avoid unnecessary arguments”.
