The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday officially announced the top five nominees for each of the Men’s Categories in the upcoming CAF Awards 2024.
Notably, Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman secured a spot among the top five nominees. However, his national team captain, William Troost-Ekong, did not make the cut. The shortlisted players for the prestigious Player of the Year award include Simon Adingra (Côte d’Ivoire / Brighton & Hove Albion), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea / Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco / Paris Saint-Germain), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria / Atalanta), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa / Mamelodi Sundowns).
In addition to the Player of the Year category, other awards announced include Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Club of the Year, and National Team of the Year.
The upcoming ceremony, set to honor excellence in African football, aims to celebrate outstanding performances across both club and national competitions. The highlight of the event will be the crowning of the CAF African Player of the Year in both the men’s and women’s categories.
CAF has confirmed a total of seven categories for the Men’s Awards, with each category featuring the top five performers, coaches, and teams. The CAF Awards 2024 will recognize achievements during the period from January to October 2024.
