FRSC, LG Set To Collaborate For Advocacy, Sensitisation

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Epe Local Government are set to collaborate to advocate and sensitise car owners, especially commercial drivers on road etiquette, speed limit, and the disadvantaged of reckless driving on the highway.

Lagos Sector Commander of road safety, Babatunde Farinloye, made this known when he led officers and men of the corps on a courtesy visit to the office of Chairman of Epe Local Government, Ms Surah Animashaun, on Thursday, in Epe.

Farinloye said the collaboration became necessary in order to educate, inform and enlighten motorists on the proper usage of the road while driving, among other ettitiqutes.

He said the visit was to reaffirm the presence and purpose of their officials within the community, which include ensuring road safety and gathering comprehensive data on commuters.

Others as; averting the recurrences of accidents, as well as curtailing road encroachment and obstructions.

According to him, the visit was also an opportunity to seek the assistance of the council to enable the officers to carry out their operations seamlessly within the council area.

Farinloye stated that while the aforementioned challenges with traffic management are general problems, proper synergy with relevant government authorities within the community including the council will be of great help.

Earlier, the council chairman commended the hard work and commitment of the FRSC officers posted to Epe in the face of reckless traffic offenders, especially the tanker drivers within the ancient community.

“To curtail the reoccurrence of unforeseen incidents on the road, there will be a need to install speed breakers at strategic spots in Epe to forestall accidents.

“The council will look into the speed breakers project and ensure it is done in earnest,”she said.

Animashaun said there would be need for stakeholders meeting and advocacy program for car owners, especially with commercial drivers on the proper way of driving on the highway and etiquette of driving.

Animashaun pledged the support of the council to road safety officials to ensure smooth operations within the council area.
