Fraud: Woman Arraigned Over Alleged Attempt To Obtain Under Pretence

A 36-year-old woman, Anthonia Nwojiji, was on Thursday, arraigned before an Abakaliki Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly intent to obtaining N1,640,000.00 million under false pretence from one Mr Moses Okubo.

Nwojiji is being charged with criminal conspiracy and theft, to which she pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Insp Bassey Okon, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 8 at Ndiebor Ishioli, Amaechi in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

Okon told the court that the offences are punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Law of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

He added that the defendant, Nwojiji did by false pretense with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N1, 640, 000 million from one Moses Okubo, ‘m’.

Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Anne Oluchukwu, made an application for bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Ojemba Isu-Oko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2m with surety.

Isi-Oko adjourned the matter until June 28 for further hearing
