Ekiti NUJ Gets New Chairman, Other Excos

Babatuyi who was the immediate past Secretary of the Council emerged unopposed through the state delegates congress held at council secretariat, Oke Bareke, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Others who emerged through consensus were Mr Olayinka Ilori, Vice Chairman; Mr Seun Ogunsakin, Secretary; Mr. Abidemi Sikiru, Treasurer;  Mr. Victor Akinkuolie, Assistant Secretary; Mrs Bunmi Ibiteye, Auditor; and Lawrence Ibitoye; Financial Secretary.

Speaking during the inuaguration of the new state executives, the NUJ National President, Mr. Chris Iziguzo commended the members of the union for their rare display of sportsmanship and maturity in electing their leaders.

Iziguzo represented by the National Vice President zone B, Mrs Ronke Samo also commended the Comr. Yakub Popoola-led Credential Committee for conducting one of the freest, credible and rancour-free elections in the history of the union.

He equally applauded the outgone State Chairman, Comrade Rotimi  Ojomoyela for redefining the council through various programmes and policies, saying he has etched his name on the sand of time.

He urged members to support the newly inaugurated leadership in  piloting the affairs of the council, adding that it will take the support of every member for the union to witness more development.

The outgone Chairman, Comr Ojomoyela, thanked members of the union for the successes his administration recorded, saying Ekiti NUJ under him has made an indelible marks.

Ojomoyela added that he was fulfilled leaving the council better than he met it, noting that he served the union selflessly with unadulterated commitment as he wanted to be remembered after his exit.

He attributed the successes recorded to God, who he said had been guiding his steps and supports of other executives members and members of the union in the state.

Ojomoyela who expressed confidence in the ability of his successor to perform creditabably well, urged all journalists in the state to extend support to the new administration.

In his acceptance speech, Com. Babatuyi thanked the members of the council for the confidence reposed in him, saying he would not disappoint them.

He promised to build on the giant strides and legacies of his predecessors, adding that his administration would operate an open-door,  inclusive leadership as well as prioritise members’ welfare.
