Ekiti State Government has appealed to the traders in the State to desist from unjust increment in the prices of food items and other commodities.
The appeal waa made by the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun on Wednesday, at a forum with traders across the State, held at Lady Jibowu Hall, Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.
The Commissioner who decried the increasing rates of food items and other commodities urged the traders not to make life unbearable for the masses. He therefore called for drastic reduction in the prices of commodities to alleviate the current hardship in the State and country at large.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment in the State, Otunba Kayode Fasae, described the incessant increment in the prices of goods as a burden on the masses saying it’s unnecessary and called on the traders to be considerate.
Also, the Director General, Community Communications, Ekiti State, Mrs Mary Omotosho, explained, that this is about the people. Adding that no matter how things get expensive, those in government can afford it. “That is why we gathered this day not to make things better for only one person but for everyone in Ekiti State.”
The Chairman Fajuyi Motor Spare Parts Traders, Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Charles Chigozie commended the State government for having such interaction with the traders. He however called for reduction in exchange rates and fuel prices as part of the measures to contain the situation.
He urged the State government to speak discuss with the higher authority, that is, the federal government to proffer solution to the current economic situation in the country.
